ONYMA Hosts Eid Program

The Organization of New York Mandingo Association
(ONYMA), on Sunday held an elaborate program in
commemoration of the Eid. The program brought together
members and guests from cross section of all five boroughs
in New York City. The program which was held at the
Claremont Park in the Bronx, started at 1pm and lasted up
to 9pm. Guests and members of ONYMA were entertained
with a host of events including, scrabble, card, checkers

One of the greatest tribulations of our community today is
the lack of unity and cooperation. Our community has been
devastated and marginalized due to the effect of this. We
have seen our political strength plummeted and our peace
and stability threatened by this situation. Our traditional
values and principle have been threatened by a common
enemy. Historically, our community was addicted to the
pursuit of peace through the advocacy and brilliance of our

Makagbe Konneh Receives National
Honors!!

Atlanta GA- July 8, 2010. The National Society of High School
Scholars (NSHSS) today announced that Paint Branch High
School Student Makagbe Konneh from Silver Spring , MD,
has been selected for membership. The Society recognizes
top scholars and invites only those students who have
achieved academic excellence. The announcement was
made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a
senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

Sometimes last year, we found ourselves in the
middle of an intensive discussion for the purpose
of searching for a viable candidate to represent
the Mandingo Community in the Jr. Senatorial by-
election for Montserrado County, Liberia; in the
process, there were tremendous political-
disconnect within our Community to some extend
that the debate nearly crumble our unity.

The Liberian community on Staten Island,
borough of New York, was awakened on
Thursday by the death of former interim
president of Liberia, Dr. David Kpormakpor.
This sad event took place at the Staten Island
university hospital, after battling a brain tumor
for many years. He died at age 74 and left
behind three sons, one daughter and four
grandchildren.
